POPRAD AND SURROUNDINGS IN WINTER
Even in winter, the city of Poprad offers number of attractions, sports opportunities, leisure activities, shopping and cultural experiences… At Christmas it changes into the most beautiful lightened city under the High Tatras – if not in the whole of Slovakia.

WEST – LIPTOVSKY MIKULAS
Like the city of Poprad, the metropolis of Liptov comes to life during Christmas with Christmas events, and in the Low and Western Tatras there are several opportunities for winter sports. Several cultural monuments can be visited all year round, so the offer is really varied.
Važec (31 km): Soldiers cementery.

NORTHWEST – HIGH TATRAS
The High Tatras are popular in winter, especially for ski resorts. Gondola lifts will take you to the slopes with beautiful alpine scenery and amazing views. There is also no shortage of cross-country ski trails or skating rinks. Museums and galleries are available all year round and in winter some easy hiking trails are open. You can easily get to the Tatras from Poprad, for example, by Tatra trams or bus connections.
Starý Smokovec (13 km): Funicular, educational paths, calvary, Hrebienok – Studenovodské waterfalls, Tatra Ice Dome in Hrebienok, regular Tatry Ice Master event, Gallery Tatry vnútri, Tricklandia, Museum of Tatra cinematography and photography, Gallery Vila Flóra.

NORTH – Červený kláštor, Pieniny
North of Poprad there is another national park – Pieniny. In the beautiful countryside, the visitor can see the monuments of Červený Kláštor, enjoy sports and tourism, or even cross the border and visit the Polish border town. On the way to Červený Kláštor you can also stop at other interesting places: Kežmarok, Strážky, Spišská Belá and Podolínec (- description is given in the Northeast direction).

NORTHEAST – Kežmarok, Stará Ľubovňa
Northeast of Poprad, the visitor has an opportunity to meet the history at almost every step. The area offers urban conservation areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, museums, a smaller thermal swimming pool, but also a visit to the distillery with a tasting of the only Slovak whiskey. All these places are available all year round.

Spišská Belá – Strážky (20 km): Chateau Strážky with English park (Slovak national gallery).
Spišská Belá (22 km): Slovak technical museum, Museum of J. M. Petzval, Museum of Michal Greisiger.
Podolínec (32 km): Church of Assumption of Virgin Mary with Belfry, Church and Monastery of piarists, Podolínsky castel, city walls, town houses.
Vyšné Ružbachy (40 km): Spa Vyšné Ružbachy, Ski park Vyšné Ružbachy, travertine crater, natural symposium of sculpture.
Hniezdne (44 km): Nestville park – distillery with exhibitions and a visitors‘ tour.
Stará Ľubovňa (49 km): Slovak royal charter town, Ľubovňa castle, Ľubovňa natural museum – Museum of Zamagurie region village, Church of St. Nicholas, The House of Ľubovňa burghers.
EAST – LEVOCA, SPISSKE PODHRADIE
This direction will move you to the historical region of Spiš, which offers many monuments written in the UNESCO World Heritage List, sacral monuments, museums and a castle ruin
Spišský Štvrtok (18 km): Gothic church with Chapel, Chateau housing the Centre for Social Services (DSS) is open for public with exhibition of the Center’s clients‘ handicraft.
Levoča (28 km): Slovak royal charter town, St. James Temple, Renaissance townhall – museum, renaissance belfry, cage of shame, Evangelical church, Museum – Art culture in Spiš region, pilgrimage to the Cult of Mary’s mountain with church of the Visitation of Virgin Mary, Gothic church and Monastery of Minorites, Master Paul´s House – museum, House of Thurzo, Baroque church of Minorites, city walls.
Levočská dolina (35 km): ski centre, winter hiking trails and cross-country-skiing paths, wellness hotel.
Spišské podhradie (43 km): Spiš castle (UNESCO), Spišská Kapitula: St. Martin’s Cathedral, Bishop´s Palace, seminary, canonists‘campus.

SOUTHEAST – SPISSKA NOVA VES
Southeast of Poprad you can get directly to paradise, in our case to the Slovak Paradise National Park, visit the town of Spišská Nová Ves with its museums or go up 154 steps to the highest church tower in Slovakia, from where you will have a beautiful view of the town and its surroundings.
Smižany (24 km): Ethnographic Museum, Birthplace of Ján Nálepka.
Spišská Nová Ves (28 km): Museum of the Spiš region, Slovak technical museum, Artist´s Gallery, ZOO, Rope park Monkeyland, Educational mining path Novoveská Huta.
Markušovce (35 km): Dardanelles mansion and summer house.
Národný park Slovenský raj Podlesok, Hrabušice (16 km) – winter hiking, cross-country-skiing paths.
SOUTH – ROZNAVA
South of Poprad is the Slovak Paradise National Park. In addition to winter hiking, you can also visit the manor house with a large park or the town of Rožňava with its monuments. In the immediate vicinity of the town of Poprad to the south, there is also the recreational part of Kvetnica, suitable for hiking.

SOUTHWEST – LIPTOVSKA TEPLICKA
The village of Liptovská Teplička has become the Slovak village of the year several times in a row. It is interesting mainly by maintaining folklore and craft traditions, but also by unique cellars and well-preserved barns. The village is surrounded by beautiful nature on the edge of the Low Tatras and there is also a ski resort
